Dissolved Oxygen Study: Stockton Deep Water Ship Channel

Authors: George Nichol
Publication Date: January 01, 1988
Summary: In order to determine how the channel-deepening project of the late 1980s affects dissolved oxygen levels in the San Joaquin River, the Army Corps of Engineers contracted for modeling studies. Comparisons were made to determine any decrease in dissolved oxygen concentrations due to the project. The mass of oxygen that would need to be replaced to mitigate for any decrease was determined. This report presents a summary of the consultant findings. It also presents some additional analyses of data and interpretations of related environmental conditions by the corps. Additionally, the Corps reviewed previous studies done by others over the past 25 years regarding the dissolved oxygen situation at Stockton, and incorporated salient findings into this report.
